Finnish Tourist Board
The Finnish Tourist Board (MEK) is a governmental agency
under the Ministry of Trade and Industry aimed for general
promotion of tourism to Finland. MEK was established in 1973. It
receives its budget from the government and the tourism
industry. MEK works in close cooperation with the Finnish
tourism and travel industry, jointly implementing and financing
marketing projects with them. One of the joint goals is to
develop more enticing, competitive products for tourists.
Annually about 135,000 overnightings are registered by Japanese
tourists visiting Finland, mainly Helsinki, Naantali, Lapland
and North Karelia.
The Finnish Tourist Board's head office and domestic unit
operates in Finland. In addition, there are 15 offices abroad.
Mr. Shigeyoshi Noto heads the Tokyo office.
